Sociologists find out what Americans think about helping Ukraine

US residents have changed their views on how much their country is spending on the war in Ukraine. As the year went on, those who believed Washington was spending too much money to support Kyiv became fewer. The Voice of America wrote this on Thursday, October 10, citing the findings of a Pearson Institute/AP-NORC poll.

“Fewer people believe the United States is spending too much to support Ukraine compared to last October (34% vs. 52%),” the poll said.

According to the study, in October 2023, 52% of respondents noted that, in their opinion, the United States spends too much on aid to Ukraine, 31% – that the United States spends as much as necessary, and 15% – which the United States spends too little. In September of this year, only 34% of respondents noted that the United States was spending too much to support Ukraine, 39% said that Americans were spending as much as necessary, and 21% said that the United States States spend too little.

Sociologists point to differences in views between supporters of the Democratic and Republican parties. Thus, according to the results of the survey, respondents who associate themselves with the Democratic Party are more likely to view Russia as an enemy and Ukraine as an ally.

Half of respondents call Russia an adversary, and 43% view Ukraine as an ally that shares the interests and values ​​of the United States. 67% of Democratic Party supporters see Russia as an enemy, compared to 43% of independents and 40% of Republicans.

Meanwhile, almost half of Russian citizens, 47%, believe that the invasion of Russian troops in Ukraine has caused more harm than good. 54% of respondents were in favor of holding peace talks in September.

The survey showed how many Ukrainians consider Russians “brothers and sisters”.
