NATO will begin nuclear exercise Steadfast Noon.
On Monday, October 14, military maneuvers will start in Belgium and the Netherlands. Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance Mark Rutte announced the start of nuclear exercises, Reuters reports.
In an uncertain world, it is vital that we test our defenses and strengthen them, so that our adversaries know that the alliance is ready and capable of responding to any threat… All exercises will be particularly focused on the UK, the North Sea, as well as Belgium and the Netherlands, – noted He.
Military weapons will not be used during the exercise. However, the military will simulate missions in which aircraft will carry American nuclear warheads. Almost 2 thousand military personnel will participate in the maneuvers. The exercises will last about two weeks.
NATO stressed that military training is not the answer to Russia’s recent nuclear threats.
Let us recall that as of September 2023, the US arsenal of nuclear warheads consisted of 3 thousand 748 units. The US National Nuclear Security Agency reported that from fiscal year 1994 to 2023, the United States dismantled 12 thousand 88 nuclear warheads. At the same time, the number of US non-strategic nuclear weapons has decreased by more than 90% since September 1991.
