An aide to one of the parliamentarians, Emmanuel Foulon, said he heard an explosion; Firefighters arrived at the scene.
The train, which was supposed to transport members of the European Parliament to Brussels, was evacuated in Strasbourg, France due to an explosion. Politico reported it.
The evacuation took place immediately after the representatives boarded the Eurostar train. An aide to one of the parliamentarians, Emmanuel Foulon, said he heard an explosion. Firefighters arrived at the scene of the incident.
“There was a technical incident on a train at Strasbourg station,” the press service of the European Parliament said, without revealing further details.
Regional rail network TER Grand Est wrote that train services to Strasbourg were suspended “due to smoke coming from the train”.
A Eurostar spokesman said the train did not travel to Brussels due to a “technical incident”.
The European Parliament usually runs special trains for its MPs and staff between Brussels and Strasbourg, where its chambers are located.
It was previously reported that over the past two years Russia has made “thousands of attempts” to disrupt rail communications in the Czech Republic.
