The head of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, by his decree simplified the procedure for entry and exit from the country for Georgian citizens. It was reported by Echo of the Caucasus on Thursday, October 10.
According to the document, the visa-free regime for entering the Russian Federation now applies to Georgian citizens arriving “in the Russian Federation for the purpose of performing work activities or for a period of more than 90 days for a temporary stay in the Russian Federation, including for the purpose of obtaining an education.”
Previously, these categories of Georgian citizens did not have the right to enter Russia without a visa.
The decree will take effect from the date of publication, and now specified categories of citizens can visit Russia “based on valid documents confirming their identity (passport of a citizen of Georgia, diplomatic passport, service passport , seaman’s books, travel document to return to Georgia).
Earlier, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili criticized the policy of the country’s government, calling out the leading party Georgian dream “Russian confidant”.
The US State Department also emphasized that the Russian Federation is involving Georgia in the war against Ukraine, which is planning to build a naval base in occupied Abkhazia.
