The UN believes that, at best, Ukrainians have to sit without electricity for 4 hours a day. And at worst – 18 hours.
Ukraine could make it through the winter of 2024-2025 without power outages if the Russians fail to destroy critical energy infrastructure that survived the initial attacks. Energy Minister German Galushchenko announced this at the forum on Wednesday, October 9 Business Energy 2024Forbes wrote.
In particular, the minister criticized a recent UN report that predicted the duration of blackouts this winter – from four hours a day under an optimistic scenario and up to 18 hours under a pessimistic one.
“We called their representatives to understand where these calculations came from, it turned out that they had no real argument,” said Galushchenko.
Power outages in the winter, according to the minister, may be due to emergency repairs, but they will not be systemic. The most reliable way of protecting energy facilities is air defense.
The UN predicts that Ukrainians should expect power outages lasting from four to 18 hours per day this winter.
Earlier, the new NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that Ukraine is on the verge of the worst winter since the start of the all-out Russian invasion, as Moscow continues to attack the country’s critical energy infrastructure.
The United States, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), transferred a batch of materials to Ukraine to protect the energy infrastructure.
