The West needs far more determination in resisting Kremlin influence than it has shown so far.
Russia is responsible for 80% of the world’s influence operations. This was announced on Wednesday, October 9, by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Jan Lipavsky, during the International Conference Strong Europereported the Czech Foreign Ministry.
It is indicated that at the conference, representatives of European countries discussed foreign interference in the world and European politics, in particular. We are talking about operations of influence and disinformation. According to Lipavsky, such interventions pose an increasing threat to security both in the Czech Republic and in Europe as a whole.
“Russia is now responsible for 80% of the world’s influence operations. That’s four times more than the entire world’s total. We need more determination in fighting Kremlin influence than we have shown for now,” he said.
The Director of the Communications Department of the Czech Foreign Ministry, Karel Smekal, added that the war against Ukraine and the aggressive policy of the Kremlin clearly illustrates the need for a more effective information policy in the West.
“The information space is the battlefield of the Russian regime, and state communication is becoming an urgent need,” he added.
Earlier, NATO said that Russia remains the most important and direct threat to the security of the North Atlantic Alliance.
Moldovan authorities recently said they had uncovered a Russian-backed operation involving 130,000 of its citizens intended to influence decisive votes on President Maia Sandu’s European aspirations this month.
