The storm is moving toward the Tampa Bay region, home to more than 3 million people. However, forecasters believe that its trajectory may change before it makes landfall.

US President Joe Biden called on residents of coastal Florida to immediately leave their homes and evacuate as Hurricane Milton approaches. The Voice of America reported this on Wednesday, October 9.

“If you are told to evacuate, you must evacuate immediately… Now, now, now. You must evacuate. This is a matter of life and death, and this is not an exaggeration,” Biden emphasized.

The storm is moving toward the Tampa Bay region, home to more than 3 million people. However, forecasters believe that its trajectory may change before it makes landfall.

“Millions of people along more than 300 miles of coastline have been ordered to evacuate,” the publication noted.

A typhoon is known to grow rapidly. In less than 24 hours, its risk level was raised from one to five. Milton is expected to bring storms, strong winds and downpours to a region already devastated by Hurricane Helen two weeks ago.

Airlines and energy companies have suspended operations in Florida.

“There is great confidence that this storm will hit hard and cause massive damage,” said Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

It was previously reported that 14 counties in Florida have evacuated residents due to the approaching Hurricane Milton. A state of emergency has been declared in Florida. Authorities warned residents of possible power outages and called for a week’s supply of water and food.
