A Turkish Airlines pilot died during an Airbus A350 passenger flight.
The tragedy in the sky occurred on Wednesday, October 9, when the airliner was flying from Seattle, America to Istanbul, Turkey. During the flight, 59-year-old captain Ilchekhin Pehlivan became ill and lost consciousness. Other pilots took control of the plane while other personnel tried to resuscitate the captain. This was reported by the BBC with reference to Turkish Airlines representative Yahya Ustun.
The team decided to make an emergency landing because Pehlivan’s condition did not improve after first aid. However, the plane’s captain died before landing.
According to media reports, Pehlivan has worked for Turkish Airlines since 2007. At the beginning of March 2024, he underwent a routine medical examination at an aviation medical center authorized by the General Directorate of Civil Aviation. Experts did not find any health problems in the pilot that would prevent him from performing his duties.
Passengers on the flight have already been redirected to New York, and from there they will fly to Turkey.
Let us recall that in April of this year it became known that since August 2023, approximately 46 thousand aircraft have encountered problems with satellite navigation while in the airspace of the Baltic region countries bordering Russia.
