Croatia has not yet joined the G7 Declaration. At the same time, the concluded agreement usually repeats the main blocks of cooperation set out in the security agreements.
Ukraine and Croatia signed an agreement on long-term cooperation in the field of humanitarian assistance and mine clearance. While the agreement provides for close cooperation, it does not contain security commitments similar to those provided under the G7 Declaration. This was announced by the Deputy Head of the Presidential Office, Igor Zhovkva, on Wednesday, October 9.
The agreement is valid for ten years from the date of its signing. When Ukraine becomes a member of NATO before it expires, the Participants will decide on the future status of the document
Priority areas of engagement outlined in the Agreement include:
-
cooperation between the defense industry and identifying prospects for joint defense production, including the possibility of joint projects with localization in Ukraine;
-
Croatia will continue to provide equipment, knowledge, experience, training and financial support for mine action in Ukraine. Overall, this Croatian financial support for mine clearance in Ukraine has already exceeded 10 million euros;
-
Croatia confirmed its support for Ukraine’s full membership in the European Union. In addition, Croatia will continue to support Ukraine’s irreversible path to NATO membership;
-
separate blocs are dedicated to supporting Ukraine in humanitarian, energy, development, legal, scientific and other areas;
-
Croatia undertakes to continue diplomatic efforts to implement the Ukrainian Peace Formula.
Croatia has not yet joined the G7 Declaration, according to which Ukraine has concluded 26 security agreements. At the same time, the concluded agreement generally repeats the main blocks of cooperation set out in the security agreements, in particular we are talking about supporting Ukraine’s path to NATO.
“The signed agreement provides the possibility of changes and additions. Accordingly, we expect that when Croatia joins the G7 Declaration, the agreement will be supplemented with new provisions, including about a 24-hour response mechanism to event of repeated Russian aggression ” said Zhovkva.
Since February 2022, Croatia has provided Ukraine with economic, financial, humanitarian and other assistance worth approximately 300 million euros. We are talking, in particular, about 11 military aid packages.
We remind you that the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky met with the Prime Minister of Croatia Andrej Plenkovic. During the negotiations, an Agreement on long-term cooperation and support was signed between the two countries.
Earlier on Wednesday it was learned that Zelensky arrived on a visit to Croatia for the Ukraine-Southeast Europe summit. In addition to our country, 12 other countries are participating in the event. This is the president’s first visit to Croatia since the start of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
