Washington continues to consult with the Israelis about its possible response to Tehran.
Israel canceled a meeting scheduled for Wednesday between Defense Minister Yoava Gallant and US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin. The Hill wrote this on Tuesday, October 8.
“We have just been told that Secretary Gallant has postponed his trip to Washington, D.C. Secretary Austin is awaiting another meeting,” Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said.
It is known that Austin is scheduled to meet with his Israeli counterpart at the Pentagon on Wednesday, and Gallant is also scheduled to meet with White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan.
However, the sources said that hours before Gallant began his trip, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he did not approve the visit and that he should wait for the Israeli leader to speak with President Biden.
“The leaders of both countries have not spoken for nearly 50 days amid tensions over Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip and the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon,” the newspaper wrote.
Prime Minister Izril’s office called this step logical, because “Gallant’s trip is pointless until Israel makes a clear decision on its response to Iran.”
Singh said he was aware of the reports and that he had “stayed away from Israeli politics.”
The Pentagon spokesman added that Washington continues to consult with the Israelis on what Tehran’s response might be to a massive attack on Israel.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog called on the people of Lebanon and Iran to rise up and fight the anti-Israeli coalition led by Tehran.
