The Russian ship, based in the city of Baltiysk and preparing for combat duty, received significant damage.
The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has again conducted a successful operation against the Russian Baltic Fleet. Ukrainian intelligence officers disabled minesweeper Alexander Obukhov. The ship, based in the city of Baltiysk and preparing for combat duty, received significant damage.
Mysterious hole
“Due to the mysterious appearance of a hole in the gas duct, water entered the engine and Obukhov suffocated,” the Main Intelligence Directorate reported.
Today’s Russian minesweeper needs major repairs.
“This could be a serious problem – a broken M-503 engine is lacking. Repairing a key installation on a ship is technically complex and expensive,” intelligence officials added.
It was noted that the disabled ship underwent repair work in St. Petersburg in July of this year.
What kind of ship?
Alexander Obukhov (serial number 521) is a key minesweeper of Project 12700, designed to find and destroy mines in the water of naval bases at a safe distance for the ship.
The ship’s displacement is 890 tons, length 61 meters, width 10 meters, speed at full displacement 16.5 knots, crew 44 people. To combat mines, the ship can use various types of trawls, as well as remote-controlled and autonomous underwater vehicles.
Second operation
The Obukhov is the second Baltic Fleet ship of the Russian Armed Forces to be neutralized in the last six months.
In April, power steering disabled the Russian warship Serpukhov. GUR representative Vadim Yusov said that this was part of the special operation of Fishing, which lasted from 2023. He noted that as a result of this operation, a large amount of important information was obtained, and the Serpukhov ship has been disabled for at least six months.
A former Russian soldier, a sailor with the call sign Goga, who is of Ukrainian origin and in 2023 contacted the Main Intelligence Directorate through “I want to live!” In addition, according to Yusov, the sailor delivered secret information to the Main Intelligence Directorate about the Baltic Fleet and the military-industrial complex of the aggressor country of the Russian Federation.
As part of the cooperation, the sailor agreed to set the Serpukhov ship where he served on fire from the inside. Yusov noted that the former Russian sailor tried to terminate the contract for military service in the Russian army, but he was not released.
This is what, according to the representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate, forced the former soldier to contact the Ukrainian intelligence and then help in carrying out the special operation Fishing.
“Blood is not water: so the warrior Goga decided to return to Ukraine and fight the Russian invaders as part of the Russian Freedom Legion,” said Yusov.
He also added that now in Russia they know that Goga was involved in the burning of Serpukhov’s rocket ship, as well as the theft of secret documents.
