In Moscow, 72-year-old American Stephen Hubbard was sentenced to 6 years and 10 months in prison for participation in Ukrainian terror defense in Izyum in the Kharkov region.

According to investigators, Hubbard has lived in Ukraine since 2014. In February 2022, he joined the ranks of the territorial defense of the city of Izyum in the Kharkov region, allegedly receiving about one thousand dollars as payment. A month later he was captured by Russians.
The investigation claims that in March 2022, Hubbard (by that time 70 years old) entered into a contract with the Teroborona unit in Kharkov for a payment of $1,000. per month, underwent training and received weapons and ammunition. And until April 2022 he allegedly took a direct part in the hostilities.
Hubbard’s sister Patricia Fox told Reuters that her brother worked as an English teacher in different countries, including Ukraine. She doubted that he could admit guilt in court and described his brother as “non-military” and “rather a pacifist” who never owned a gun and had pro-Russian views.
Moreover, some of Hubbard’s acquaintances note that he had pro-Russian views.
The American himself admitted to everything he was accused of.
