Israel has eliminated the new leader of Hezbollah, Hashim Safi al-Din, Al Arabiya TV channel claims.
On the night of October 4, Israel struck the suburbs of Beirut in Lebanon, where Safi al-Din was believed to have a bunker. Hezbollah has not yet commented on this.
There has been no contact with Safi ad-Din since the attack, Reuters notes. Israel continues to attack Beirut, so it is now impossible to search the site of the attack. The media note that Israel’s target could have been Safi al-Din and other senior Hezbollah officials – they were holding a meeting in an underground bunker at the time of the strike.
Hashim Safi al-Din is the cousin of the liquidated Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasralli. Al Arabiya wrote that it was he who became the new head of the movement.
