Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico will persuade Ukraine to maintain gas transit after 2024, when Ukraine’s agreement with Gazprom expired.
The publication Aktuality writes about this on October 5.
We will convince Ukrainian partners to use their energy infrastructure to import gas and oil to Europe… If Ukraine wants to preserve this infrastructure, it must be used, Fico said.
He noted that Slovakia supports Ukraine’s European integration and counts on friendly steps from Ukraine.
At the same time, the Slovak prime minister talks about “preserving transit”, avoiding mention of Russian gas.
Earlier it was reported that Europe was considering the option of buying gas from Azerbaijan so that it would do the same through the Ukrainian gas transportation system.
Last year, Fico advocated the resumption of relations with Russia after the war. He said that the EU and the Russian Federation need each other. At a meeting of the governments of Slovakia and Ukraine, he promises to discuss the role of Ukraine as a transit country.
