PMC representatives told relatives of the prisoners that they were supposedly “dead,” but the Tuareg themselves called such statements lies.
Several Wagner PMC militants were captured by Tuareg rebels in Mali in July 2024. The Wagnerites claim that the captured militants are now dead, but the Tuaregs call such claims false. This was reported by Reuters news agency.
The media said that representatives of the Wagner PMC informed the families of the captured mercenaries that the prisoners were dead. The information was confirmed by the relatives of the three prisoners.
However, the spokesperson of the Tuareg rebel group denied this information. According to him, Russian prisoners and Malian army soldiers captured in the same conflict are still alive.
“All our prisoners are alive (PMC) Wagner are liars,” said the Tuareg representative.
However, he refused to give evidence.
The media reported that the Wagner PMC initially said that most of the fighters who took part in the battle in the desert were “missing in action”.
The news agency identified the names of 31 mercenaries who were missing or captured after the fighting with the Tuaregs. Although the Wagnerites admitted heavy losses during the Mali ambush, they did not provide any data on their numbers.
Let’s remember that in Mali, Tuareg rebels killed and wounded dozens of Wagner PMC fighters. Later, the Wagner group confirmed the clash with the Tuaregs and admitted defeats.
