The ban on imports of Russian gold is planned to be included in the new EU sanctions package.
The European Union plans to impose a ban on Russia’s gold imports, Bloomberg reports, citing a source close to the process.
It was noted that industry analysts assess the ban as rather symbolic, as the sanctions imposed have actually closed the EU and US markets for Russia.
According to the publication, the new package of EU sanctions will also cover adjustments to previously approved measures, which may include changes to the rules for the transfer of sanctioned goods to the Russian Kaliningrad enclave.
It will be recalled that the G7 leaders agreed to discuss options for limiting the price of Russian oil, in particular, by banning services such as insurance required for the transportation of crude oil and petroleum products. .
At the same time, sanctions against Russia’s gas in the EU are not yet planned.
The EU is expected to focus on expanding existing sanctions, such as technology export restrictions, as well as sanctions against Russian oligarchs and entities.
Earlier this week, the United States imposed a ban on Russia’s gold imports. The State Department estimates that a ban on Russia’s gold imports, Russia’s second largest source of revenue after energy, would cost the Kremlin $ 19 billion a year.
