F-18 fighter plane crash in Spain: pilot killed

Lieutenant Colonel Pablo Estrada Martin, who has more than 1,500 hours of flight time, did not have time to exit the plane.

An F/A-18 Hornet fighter of the Spanish Air Force crashed the plane. The pilot Lt. was killed. Col. Pablo Estrada Martin. This was reported by the Spanish edition of ABC.

The accident occurred on Friday, October 4, in the province of Teruel in eastern Spain. Estrada, who had more than 1,500 flight hours, did not have time to eject from the F/A-18 and died as a result of the fall.

The causes of the tragedy have not yet been established.

The Spanish Air Force expressed condolences to the family of the deceased pilot, noting that he had recently led a mission in Lithuania, participating in air patrols of the Baltic countries.

Spain has retired the F/A-18, which has been in service since 1986, and is working to replace it with the more modern F-35.

Let’s remember that in May last year a McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet fighter crashed in the Spanish city of Zaragoza.
