The accident occurred on Friday, October 4, in the province of Teruel in eastern Spain. Estrada, who had more than 1,500 flight hours, did not have time to eject from the F/A-18 and died as a result of the fall.
The causes of the tragedy have not yet been established.
The Spanish Air Force expressed condolences to the family of the deceased pilot, noting that he had recently led a mission in Lithuania, participating in air patrols of the Baltic countries.
Spain has retired the F/A-18, which has been in service since 1986, and is working to replace it with the more modern F-35.
