Recruitment of Ukrainian volunteers to the Ukrainian Legion is just beginning, although Poland is ready to begin training recruits on September 1.
Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamisz said about 300 people wanted to join the Ukrainian Legion. This amount is not enough to form a brigade (usually consisting of 1000-8000 people). PAP reported it.
According to him, the recruitment of Ukrainian volunteers to the Ukrainian Legion is just beginning, although Poland is ready to start training recruits on September 1.
The minister added that it was not possible to start studies a month ago, because there were few applicants then. At the same time, Kosinyak-Kamish noted that Ukraine has taken actions related to informing and promoting recruitment, so an effect is expected.
As you know, the Ukrainian Legion is an initiative agreed upon by the Polish and Ukrainian sides. Within its framework, Poland will teach Ukrainians on its territory to express a desire to defend their Motherland.
We remind you that the First Recruiting Center was opened at the Ukrainian Consulate in Lublin (Poland), which recruits volunteer citizens of Ukraine to serve in the army.
Earlier, Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamisz said that Poland is ready to train the Ukrainian military from the Ukrainian Legion, but there are not enough people willing to enlist in it.
