Israel has warned the US that it is planning a “limited ground operation” in Lebanon that could begin soon.
The Washington Post wrote about this on September 30, citing a source.
According to the interlocutor, the planned operation “will be smaller in scale” than the war with Hezbollah in 2006. It will focus on destroying the group’s infrastructure along the border to eliminate the threat to residents of Israel’s border regions.
ABC News sources claimed that the Israeli military has “already begun or will soon begin” small operations in the border areas of Lebanon to destroy Hezbollah positions.
Despite pressure from the United States and Arab countries calling for a diplomatic solution to the conflict and warning of the risk of regional war, Israel continued to build up its forces on the border with Lebanon in September. According to Israeli army chief of staff Halevi, the ongoing air strikes are in preparation for a ground maneuver. He stressed that troops must be prepared to invade enemy territory.
In addition, the Israel Defense Forces eliminated the leader of Hamas in Lebanon, Fateh Sherif.
A Hamas commander was killed along with several members of his family in an attack on their home in a refugee camp in southern Lebanon.
According to the IDF, Fateh Sherif was responsible for coordinating Hamas activities in Lebanon, recruiting people and buying weapons. He was also a member of the teachers’ union of the UN Agency for Palestine Refugees.
Bloomberg reports that EU foreign ministers plan to discuss the situation in the Middle East, in particular against the backdrop of the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
