Due to the escalation of the confrontation, the situation in the Middle East remains tense, and further actions that Israel may take are causing concern in Washington.
Israel has informed the United States of plans for a ground invasion of Lebanon aimed at the Hezbollah group. United States President Joe Biden expressed displeasure at such intentions and called for an immediate ceasefire in the Middle East. AFP reported this on Monday, September 30.
The United States received notification from Israel of a local attack on the territory of Lebanon where the Hezbollah group is based. As an American official noted in a commentary in The Washington Post, Israel intends to conduct a ground operation that could begin within the next few hours.
The invasion campaign is expected to be smaller than the 2006 war and will aim to dismantle militant infrastructure along the Israel-Lebanon border to eliminate the threat to Israeli border communities.
While Biden said he does not support Israel’s intention to conduct a ground operation. He called for a ceasefire as tensions rose in the Middle East following the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
“I am more than aware and they want to stop the fire must be stopped now,” Biden emphasized.
Thus, due to the escalation of the confrontation, the situation in the Middle East remains tense, and additional actions that Israel may take are causing concern in Washington.
Let’s recall that the head of the IDF Northern Command, Major General Ori Gordin, and the head of the Operations Directorate of the General Staff, Major General Oded Basyuk, previously approved the plan for an offensive on Lebanese territory.
