Ukrainian Foreign Minister Sibiga, after negotiations with Hungarian Foreign Minister Szijjarto in Budapest, said that he and his Hungarian colleague noted “positive dynamics” in resolving the issue of national minorities.
He emphasized that Ukraine confirms its bilateral and international obligations to ensure the rights of persons belonging to the Hungarian national community.
Foreign Minister Sibiga spoke face to face with Hungarian Foreign Minister Szijjártó for about an hour as part of his regional tour, the press service reported. They discussed Ukraine’s accession to the European Union and NATO, the situation at the front, the Ukrainian “peace formula” and the victory plan.
On September 30, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine arrived on a working visit to Hungary. Sibiga thanked Hungary, in particular, for joining the mine action coalition, participating in projects to rebuild Ukraine and opening the first bilingual Ukrainian-Hungarian school.
Hungary is part of the global majority when it calls for immediate peace in Ukraine. We were able to confirm this several times during the UN General Assembly last week, the Hungarian minister noted.
Szijjártó noted that Hungary strives for “good neighborly relations” with Ukraine, but at the same time cited a Hungarian proverb that “there are two sides to justice.”
The head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry recalled that Sibiga’s visit is the first visit of the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry to Budapest in four and a half years.
