The transactions in 2023 were arranged by a citizen of Ukraine. He attracted the residents of several regions and foreigners to it.
Ukrainian and Czech law enforcement officials have stopped the activities of an international criminal organization that specializes in the fraudulent misuse of funds from EU citizens. The press service of the Office of the Prosecutor General reported this on Monday, September 30.
According to the investigation, the deal in 2023 was arranged on the territory of our state by a citizen of Ukraine. He attracted residents of several regions and foreigners who spoke Czech and other languages to communicate with the victims.
Representatives of the call centers called them on the phone under the guise of bank employees and reported that their bank accounts had been hacked.
They offered to temporarily transfer funds to other “safe accounts” or buy cryptocurrency at a favorable rate. During the calls, they used the so-called substitute phone number. Thus, the victims had the impression that they were receiving a call from the bank’s support service.
Incidents of fraudulent misappropriation of funds from more than 100 Czech citizens totaling more than 30 million Czech crowns, equivalent to nearly 56 million hryvnias, have been documented. Law enforcement officials detained three foreign citizens – members of a criminal organization.
During searches in Kirovograd, Dnepropetrovsk and Kyiv regions, mobile phones, computer equipment, electronic storage media, bank cards and other material evidence, including cash in the amount of more than 68 thousand dollars, were seized, as well as the euro and hryvnia, taken by participating criminal organizations
Additional investigative actions are conducted to establish the circumstances of the crimes. Three imprisoned foreign nationals were released at the request of the Czech Republic through extradition.
We remind you that in Prague, law enforcement officials detained an 18-year-old boy who collected funds to help Ukraine, but used the money for his own needs.
