An Israeli strike on Hezbollah’s underground command center in Beirut on September 27 killed the deputy commander of the IRGC along with Nasrallah.
The Irna agency writes about Major General Abbas Nilforoushan, who was sent to Lebanon from Iran to help Hezbollah.
Nilforoushan was appointed IRGC Deputy for Operations in 2019, succeeding Ali Zahedi.
The IRGC statement notes Nilforoushan’s role in protecting the Resistance Front and Iran and expresses condolences for his death, but does not address the IRGC’s response to his murder, although it condemns the “crimes of the Zionist regime” in Lebanon.
Previously, the IRGC has repeatedly promised retaliation measures in connection with the death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, who was killed in Tehran at the end of July.
Israel said it carried out another series of strikes on Sunday night against “dozens” of Hezbollah targets, whose leader Hassan Nasrallah was killed in an airstrike on the group’s underground headquarters.
Lebanese media reported that at least 15 people were killed in the overnight strikes.
The Israel Defense Forces claims that Nasrallah died after an airstrike on Beirut on September 27. Hezbollah did not confirm the death of its leader.
Hassan Nasrallah led Hezbollah for 32 years. He led the Islamist movement in 1992 after the Israeli military killed Hezbollah’s previous leader, Abbas al Mousawi.
