F-16 fighters have been in service in the Netherlands for more than 45 years. The country is currently transitioning to a newer aircraft – the F-35.
A farewell flight of F-16 fighter jets took place in the Netherlands. Eight F-16 fighters took off from Wolkel Air Base. Ukrinform reported this on Friday, September 27.
“Our F-16s continue to make a difference, protect our freedom, fight for freedom for others… There is nothing better than the fact that the Ukrainian Air Force can make a difference with the help of our aircraft in their fight for freedom, justice and sovereignty And it’s also about freedom and stability in Europe,” said Royal Netherlands Air Force Lieutenant General Andre Jabba Steer.
After landing, one of the fighters approached the press. Ster climbed into the pilot and, according to Dutch tradition, with him, opened the Dutch beer, celebrated the flight and the farewell ceremony for the F-16.
The Dutch Air Force has had F-16s in service for 45 years and has been used for decades in missions at home and abroad. In 2022, 29 F-16 fighters remained in the Netherlands. Currently, the country is actively transitioning to the new American F-35 fighters.
We remind you that the Netherlands plans to transfer 24 F-16 fighters to Ukraine.
