Syria allows Lebanese citizens to enter indefinitely, provided they have documentation.
In the past 72 hours, more than 30 thousand people, mostly Syrians, have moved from Lebanon to Syria. This was reported by Reuters in relation to a statement by the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) on Friday, September 27.
About 80% of people crossing the border are Syrians, another 20% are Lebanese. Almost half are children and teenagers.
“From a country at war, they are moving to a country where the armed conflict has been escalating for 13 years,” said UNHCR representative in Syria Gonzalo Vargas Lesa.
Syria has allowed Lebanese citizens to enter indefinitely, provided they have identification documents.
Lebanon is home to approximately one and a half million Syrians who fled Syria’s civil war, which began in 2011.
Let’s recall that earlier this week the Israeli military launched a massive operation to strike Hezbollah targets in Lebanon. Hezbollah forces, for their part, continue to fire rockets into Israeli territory.
