Brazil plans to discuss its joint “six-point peace plan” with China to end the Russian-Ukrainian war with representatives of 20 countries of the Global South on September 27 in New York. It was reported by Reuters.
The meeting is expected to be attended by Colombia, Egypt, Indonesia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates and other countries of the Global South. Representatives of European governments, Ukraine’s biggest supporters, were not among those invited.
The meeting will be chaired by Celso Amorim, chief adviser to the Brazilian President on international affairs, who will try to convince those present to support the Brazilian-Chinese “six-point consensus” on a settlement in Ukraine.
As is known, the Sino-Brazilian peace proposal calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities, de-escalation of the situation and the start of peace negotiations between Kiev and Moscow, without asking Russia to withdraw its troops from the occupied Ukrainian territories.
The President of Brazil, in his speech at the UN General Assembly, once again spoke in support of this proposal, despite the fact that the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, called it destructive.
