The new workaround will allow the Pentagon to continue supplying weapons to Kyiv. However, the US cannot supply new types of equipment.
The White House is working on a new plan to extend the authority to send $5.9 billion in aid to Ukraine after Oct. 1, when the new fiscal year begins. However, Plan B has a drawback, Politico wrote on Tuesday, September 24.
We are talking about the aid package adopted in April, according to which the Pentagon can use its own reserves to quickly transfer weapons and equipment to Ukraine. Money not used before October 1 is used to replace American equipment in our own arsenals.
“This new workaround, which requires the administration to announce that it will use the remaining aid in the coming months, will allow the Pentagon to continue supplying weapons to Kyiv. However, under this method the United States States cannot provide new types of equipment that are not included in previous deliveries.” edition.
Pentagon spokesman Lt. Col. Charlie Dietz that timely implementation of the plan will allow supplies to extend beyond the new fiscal year. In addition, the new plan would remain in place even without Congressional action.
Earlier, the media reported that the United States may transfer a new type of weapon to Kyiv – Joint Standoff Weapon winged aerial bombs.
We remind you that the Pentagon has promised that the 6 billion aid to Ukraine will not “burn” the United States plans to use “every dollar and every cent” allocated to help Ukraine.
