The commander of the legendary 72nd separate mechanized brigade named after the Black Zaporozhians was Colonel Alexander Okhrimenko, who previously headed the Odessa regional territorial center for recruitment and social support.
This was reported by military journalist Yuri Butusov.
Earlier it became known that Ivan Vinnik, the commander of the 72nd separate mechanized brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces named after the Black Zaporozhians, which holds the line near Ugledar in the Donetsk region, was dismissed from his post.
The North operational command noted that Vinnik’s dismissal was connected with “promotion and the need to pass on combat experience.”
The OK added that Vinnik is an experienced commander who “protects and respects his personnel.”
The Black Zaporozhians are one of the most combat-ready units of the Ukrainian Ground Forces. The brigade participated in almost all the significant battles of the Russian-Ukrainian war and always showed itself better. Its soldiers are proud of the fact that in the zone of their offensive no one usually survives, and when the brigade holds the defense, it “grinds down” the best units of the enemy.
Colonel Okhrimenko graduated from the Odessa Institute of Ground Forces in 2006, after which he was assigned to the 72nd Brigade, where he rose from platoon commander to chief of staff of the 1st mechanized battalion.
In October 2021, he became the commander of the 14th separate mechanized brigade named after Prince Roman the Great. Having met the great war with her, he showed himself from the best side. In 2023-2024, he headed the Odessa regional TCK
