Turkey will strengthen efforts to end the war in Ukraine, Erdogan told the UN General Assembly.
Turkey will strengthen its efforts to end the Russian-Ukrainian war through diplomacy and dialogue. This is what Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, speaking at the UN General Assembly in New York on Tuesday, September 24.
The Turkish leader noted that in the third year of the war in Ukraine, “we are still far from establishing a just and lasting peace.”
“As the arms race accelerates, the field of diplomacy is gradually shrinking. Let’s increase support for efforts to end the war through diplomacy and dialogue based on Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty,” Erdogan said .
The Turkish President also assured that his country will continue to carefully implement the provisions of the Montreux Convention, which controls the passage of warships in the Black Sea straits.
Erdogan also noted the ineffectiveness of the UN and called for reform of the organization, especially the UN Security Council.
Let’s recall that Czech President Petr Pavel said that Ukraine should come to terms with the likely “temporary” presence of some of its territories under Russian control after the end of the war.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry responded to the call of the Czech President to accept the occupation of part of the territories.
