The IAEA does not plan to permanently station observers at the station, as was done at the four Ukrainian stations.
The situation around Russia’s Kursk nuclear power plant remains serious, but the agency is not planning a permanent mission to the plant. This is what the head of the UN nuclear agency, Rafael Grossi, said, Reuters reports.
As is known, Ukrainian troops are located in the southern Kursk region, approximately 40 km from the facility.
Grossi visited the Kursk plant last month and said it would be “extremely vulnerable” if it were attacked because the facility does not have a protective dome.
Grossi said the IAEA has no plans to permanently station observers at the station, as was done at four Ukrainian stations, including the Zaporozhye station that was captured by Russian forces at the start of the invasion.
It was previously reported that the International Atomic Energy Agency will expand the representation of its monitoring missions in Ukraine to infrastructure facilities affecting the safety of nuclear power plants.
The IAEA does not advise launching the Zaporizhzhya NPP while the war is ongoing
