Donald Trump golf course shooter Ryan Wesley Routh wrote a letter to “the world” months before the shooting, saying he had tried to kill the former president and offering a reward to anyone who “finished his job.”
“This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump, but I failed you. I am offering $150,000 to anyone who can finish the job,” Rout wrote.
The letter was found in a box given to law enforcement by a witness to the shooting. The box also contained ammunition, a metal pipe and four telephones.
Prosecutors also said they found a handwritten list of dates in August, September and October in Routt’s car that listed locations where Trump had appeared or was expected to appear. In addition, towers picked up his phone signal not only at the golf course where the incident occurred but also near Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence.
Rout had previously criticized Trump on several occasions, and at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, he supported Ukraine and visited Kyiv. However, in 2023, he returned to the United States and wrote a book, “The Unwinnable War,” about corruption and communism in Ukraine and his disappointment in ungrateful Ukrainians.
