The Supreme Anti-Corruption Court has taken MP Andriy Odarchenko into custody in absentia and also collected the bail of 15 million UAH paid for him for the benefit of the state. The decision was made by HACC judge Viktor Nogachevsky.
As journalist Oleg Novikov’s channel NABU Daily writes, during the meeting it turned out that MP Odarchenko was in Kyiv and asked the driver to stop in the city so he could walk to the Verkhovna Rada building. The politician also gave all three phones to the driver and asked him to charge them. The driver never saw Odarchenko again and no one could contact him because the driver had all three phones.
According to NABU detectives, Odarchenko illegally crossed the border near the settlement of Krasnoilsk in the Chernivtsi region and asked Romania for asylum. Officially, no one provided Odarchenko with a business trip and he did not cross the border.
The Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada did not issue travel documents for Odarchenko to travel abroad.
The SAP prosecutor filed a motion to recover bail in connection with the deputy’s escape. There is also a motion to change the measure of restraint from bail to custody.
The escaped deputy will be excluded from the Rada’s anti-corruption committee. At the same time, as noted by People’s Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak, Deputy Odarchenko was not excluded from the Servant of the People faction.
History of the issue
Recall that in November 2023, NABU and SAP reported suspicion to Odarchenko. According to law enforcement agencies, the people’s deputy offered a bribe to the former head of the Agency for the Restoration of Ukraine Mustafa Nayem, in Bitcoin cryptocurrency in the amount of 50 thousand dollars in exchange for assistance in allocating funds from the fund for the elimination of the consequences of Russian aggression for the repair of the buildings of the university where he remained the rector.
In November 2023, the court ordered the suspect to be remanded in custody with the possibility of posting bail in the amount of 15 million hryvnia. Odarchenko quickly paid it and was released.
On September 18, 2024, NABU reported that Odarchenko, a corruption suspect, had likely fled abroad.
