The vehicles were detained at the Klaipeda seaport in March last year. A pre-trial investigation is underway.
Lithuania is considering transferring to Ukraine 17 fire engines that were detained in Klaipeda last year because of sanctions and were supposed to be delivered to Zimbabwe. BNS reported it.
According to Prosecutor General Nida Grunskienė, a pre-trial investigation is underway and the issue of the transfer of 17 cars to Ukraine that were supposed to go to Zimbabwe has been decided.
As you know, last week the South African state news portal The Herald published an appeal to Lithuania to transfer 17 cars that Zimbabwe bought from Belarus last year. According to Zimbabwe’s attorney general, the vehicles were seized at the Klaipeda seaport in March last year.
“There is a prosecutor’s decision where we inform the Zimbabwean prosecutor’s office that these 17 cars have been confiscated because the company that produced these cars is subject to sanctions, and Zimbabwe itself is also subject to sanctions,” said by Grunskienė.
He added that the African state was also informed about this decision through diplomatic channels.
“We are waiting to see if they will exercise their right to appeal,” the prosecutor general said.
Zimbabwe’s attorney general reportedly came to Lithuania this year to return the cars.
Let’s recall that Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda said that Lithuania is studying the possibility of acquiring short-range anti-aircraft missile systems for the air defense system for Ukraine.
It has also been reported that Lithuania will invest millions in the production of the Palyanitsa drone missile.
