British intelligence believes the damage to the depot was caused by improper storage of munitions that remained vulnerable to drone strikes despite upgrades in 2018 following bombing incidents.
A strike on a Russian ammunition depot in the village of Toropets in the Tver region would affect the operations of Russian forces, including in the Kursk region, said an analysis by the British Ministry of Defense.
The analysis states that the strategic ammunition depot in Toropets, located about 500 km from Ukraine, hit on the night of September 18, is one of the largest in Russia and contains more than 30 thousand tons of shells.
British intelligence believes the damage to the depot was caused by improper storage of munitions that remained vulnerable to drone strikes despite upgrades in 2018 following bombing incidents.
This resulted in a “chain reaction of cascading detonations in the bunker system, resulting in massive ammunition losses,” the analysis said.
“Russian air defenses continue to struggle to counter Ukrainian long-range strike operations, despite claiming to have intercepted more than 50 UAVs during the attack,” British MoD intelligence said.
Let’s remember that due to the strike of Ukrainian drones on a military warehouse in the Tver region, Russia lost its ammunition supply designed for two to three months, said the head of the intelligence center of the Estonian Defense Forces, Colonel Ants Kiviselg.
