Everything we know about the live-action version of ‘The Sims’

Find out what information has already been confirmed about the live-action adaptation of EA’s life simulation game: The Sims!

“The Sims” is going to be a movie and will be released in live-action format! A game from Electronic Arts released on February 4, 2000, the title works as a life simulation, where the player can create their own character to experience situations similar to those in reality in the virtual world, such as embarking on relationships or having different work experiences.

With the formal confirmation of the plot last Tuesday, the 17th, some information about the project, such as the names involved behind the scenes and some anticipations about the story, have already been revealed, increasing fans’ expectations for the release. What’s the story?

Previews of the feature film’s plot have not yet been released, but in an interview given to Variety, EA’s vice president and general manager of the “The Sims” franchise, Kate Gormangave a little preview of what fans should expect.

“What I will tell you is that it’s very much rooted in the universe of ‘The Sims,’” Gorman said. “And what we want to do is have a truly authentic ‘Sims’ experience brought to a theatrical release.”

Gorman also said that they want to “make an impact on the scale of something like a ‘Barbie’ movie.” This is because, in addition to bringing elements of the game’s story and gameplay, it is important that the film “is something that you can share across generations and be part of pop culture and culturally relevant.”

Will there be easter eggs?

Whenever a new adaptation hits theaters, the easter eggs are some of the most anticipated parts for fans, as they hide references that only those who previously knew the title will be able to recognize. About this, Gorman stated that yes, these allusions can be expected, in addition to revealing that Freezer Bunny, the game’s unofficial mascot, will appear.

“There’s going to be a lot of lore, you’re going to see a lot of that universe in the movie. You’re going to see things from the game come to life on screen,” Gorman said. “There’s going to be Freezer Bunny, and I’m sure a pool without ladders is in there somewhere, but we haven’t finalized all the details yet.”

Who will drive?

Kate Herronknown for directing the series “Loki” (2021-2023) is the filmmaker behind the project. She will also co-write the script with Briony Redmana screenwriter who worked on “Doctor Who”.

Who will produce?

The film will be produced by LuckyChap, a production company run by Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley, Josey McNamara and Sophia Kerr. The company is known for being behind titles such as “Barbie” (2023), “Saltburn” (2023), “I, Tonya” (2017) and “Birds of Prey” (2020).

Additionally, Amazon MGM Studios is responsible for distributing the title.

When does it premiere?

“The Sims” does not yet have a release date set.
