The Kremlin, according to Ukrainian intelligence, is preparing strikes on critical nuclear energy facilities in Ukraine ahead of winter.
Today, September 21, the head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andriy Sybiga, reported this on his page on the social network X.
According to him, this concerns, in particular:
- open switchgear of nuclear power plants;
- transmission substations that are critical to the safe operation of nuclear power.
The destruction of these facilities creates a high risk of a nuclear incident that will have global consequences. The Ukrainian special services have already passed on the relevant information to their partners. The IAEA has also been informed, the minister noted.
Sibiga recalled that Russia is the only country that has seized a nuclear power plant in Europe, blackmailing the world.
The Ukrainian peace formula contains a clause on ensuring radiation and nuclear safety. We call on all international organizations and states that respect the UN Charter to prevent the scenario of a terrorist country, he emphasized.
The Minister also expressed gratitude to the IAEA for the decision to expand missions to a number of energy facilities in Ukraine.
We ask the Agency, partner countries and other organizations to implement the agreements as soon as possible. We also call for ensuring a permanent enhanced presence of missions at all relevant sites, he added.
