It is not possible to apply a differentiated approach to Ukrainian refugees based on their gender or conscription ability, as follows from the directive on temporary protection.
European Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson said that male Ukrainian citizens of military age will not be forcibly expelled from the territory of the European Union. He said this in an interview with Radio Liberty.
“We will help those who want to return to Ukraine. In addition, there will be a discussion with the Ukrainian authorities and the Ukrainian government on how to do this in the best way.
He noted that applying a different approach to Ukrainian refugees based on their gender, age, military conscription capacity is not possible, it is in line with the directive on the provision of temporary protection.
Let’s remember that Poland believes that conditions can be created in the EU that will encourage Ukrainians liable for military service to return home. This is what Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said.
As reported, President Vladimir Zelensky said that he expects the return of Ukrainian citizens, including men, from abroad, however, without any compulsion to do so.
