The US Department of Defense is working with Congress to ensure that the President’s term is extended to release all remaining funds to support Ukraine after the end of the fiscal year.
The US plans to use “every dollar and every cent” allocated to help Ukraine. Deputy Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh said this in a briefing on Thursday, September 19.
He noted that the United States Department of Defense is working with Congress to ensure the extension of the President’s authority to allocate all remaining funds for military support to Ukraine after the end of the fiscal year, which expires in end of September In this regard, Singh assured that the government intends to “use every dollar and every cent.”
According to him, there is currently $5.8 billion of unused funds remaining within the framework of the president’s powers for Ukraine.
At the same time, Singh said, the US Department of Defense cannot provide military assistance now, because it cannot restore the reserves necessary to maintain its own level of combat readiness. He recalled that for a long time, while Congress passed a large-scale aid package to Ukraine, the Pentagon could not replenish its reserves.
Singh also assured that a bipartisan agreement remains in Congress to provide support for Ukraine.
It was previously reported that the Biden administration approached Congress about the possibility of sending military aid to Ukraine until 2025.
