An installation called “Battle for Light” has opened on Kontraktova Square in Kyiv, where you can see live what the equipment of Ukrainian thermal power plants looks like after Russian attacks.
The DTEK press service reported this today, September 19.
The installation gives Ukrainians the opportunity to personally see and assess the scale of destruction of Ukrainian energy infrastructure facilities, which have been subjected to more than a thousand Russian attacks since October 2022, as a result of which the enemy destroyed almost 90% of all thermal and 45% of hydroelectric generation.
The installation includes a power transformer destroyed by Russia, which operated at one of DTEK’s thermal power plants. This transformer, like dozens of others, was damaged as a result of numerous massive enemy attacks on the power industry – it survived several hits by debris, and was eventually destroyed to the ground, the company notes.
It is noted that the exposed transformer burned for 24 hours after the shelling, since it was impossible to extinguish it. Due to the extensive damage, it cannot be restored.
The installation was organized by DTEK and the Port of Culture NGO with the assistance of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.
The energy infrastructure of each region without exception has suffered from shelling. In between massive missile strikes, the enemy daily attacks energy facilities across the country with drones, especially in frontline regions, notes First Deputy Minister of Energy Yuri Sheiko.
