The country needs new ballistic missiles allegedly because of the “serious threat of external forces,” North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said.
North Korea has tested new Hwasongpho-11-Da-4.5 ballistic missiles with an ultra-large warhead. This was reported by Reuters on Thursday, September 19.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was present at the tests. He said the country needed new ballistic missiles allegedly because of “serious threats from external forces.”
During the tests, a new tactical ballistic missile, the Hwasongpho-11-Da-4.5, was used, which is part of a series of short-range ballistic missiles produced in the DPRK. The missile has a massive warhead weighing 4.5 tons.
“This particular missile, numbered Hwasongpho-11-Da-4.5, is still in the development stage, but Russia may wish to have it in the near future if its performance and reliability confirmed in further tests,” said Shin Sung-ki, head of the North Korean military research department at the state-run Korea Institute of Defense Analysis in Seoul.
Let’s recall that in July it was first known that the DPRK had tested the Hwasongpho-11-Da-4.5 missile. Then two missiles were launched with a maximum range of 500 km and a minimum range of 90 km.
It has also been reported that Kim Jong-un has ordered an exponential increase in North Korea’s nuclear arsenal. He ordered an increase in the number of centrifuges designed to enrich uranium.
