The corresponding resolution was supported by 124 countries, 43 abstained, including Ukraine. 14 states voted against.
The UN General Assembly demands that Israel withdraw from the occupied Palestinian territories. The corresponding resolution was adopted on Thursday, September 18, reported UN press service.
The document calls on Israel to “end its illegal presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory within the next 12 months.”
124 countries voted for the resolution, 43 abstained (including Ukraine), and 14 states opposed it, including Israel itself and its top ally the United States.
The spokesman for the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oren Marmorstein, condemned the General Assembly’s decision.
“The decision of the assembly gives strength and strengthens the terrorist Hamas and the terrorist power of Iran behind it (…) The decision of the assembly also lays the foundation for any attempts to promote a peaceful solution,” wrote an Israeli diplomatic representative.
Let’s remember that last week Palestine for the first time took place among the 193 member states of the UN at the General Assembly in New York.
It was previously reported that on the territory where the Palestinians seek to create an independent state, Israel will build its own settlement.
