Israel’s prime minister has pledged to repatriate tens of thousands of residents evacuated from northern border regions due to rising tensions with the Hezbollah group.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday night, September 18, announced a military operation against the Hezbollah group in southern Lebanon. He announced this on social networks X.
Netanyahu posted a ten-second video in which he said only one sentence.
“I have said it. We will return the northerners to their homes and ensure their safety. It will be done,” Netanyahu said.
A day earlier, Al Jazeera quoted Netanyahu as saying that Israel’s goals for the war in Gaza had expanded to include allowing Israelis who fled areas near the Lebanese border to return to their homes. The decision came after Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant told visiting US envoy Amos Hochstein that “military action” was “the only option left to ensure the return of Israel’s northern communities.”
Netanyahu, in turn, told the envoy that he was looking for “fundamental changes” in the security situation on Israel’s northern border.
As you know, Lebanon is located north of Israel. Also on Wednesday, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant announced a “new phase” of the war against Hezbollah, which will see the IDF focus resources on the northern front, near the border with Lebanon.
On Wednesday, a second wave of explosions began in Lebanon, but this time various gadgets, mopeds and even cars exploded.
