Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky began his daily address to the people of Ukraine on September 18 by thanking the Ukrainian army for a precise strike on Russian territory.
Zelensky did not directly mention any specific events, but his words came immediately after Ukrainian intelligence agencies claimed that an ammunition depot in the city of Toropets in the Tver region had been hit.
First of all, I want to thank our soldiers who ensure our Ukrainian long-range capabilities. A very important result last night on Russian territory, it is precisely such things that weaken the enemy, Zelensky said. – I thank everyone involved. Such precision that it is inspiring. Our special services: the Security Service, the Main Intelligence Directorate, the Special Operations Forces – thank you! – the president said.
Sources of several Ukrainian media outlets in the Security Service of Ukraine previously stated that in the Tver region, Ukrainian drones “liquidated a train” with Iskander and Tochka-U missiles.
Satellite images and numerous shots on social networks showed that a strong fire had started in the area of a warehouse in Toropets, and powerful explosions were heard there.
In their reports about what is happening in Toropets, the Russian authorities do not mention the ammunition depot, they only talk about a fire and the injury of more than ten people “as a result of the fall of UAV debris.”
At night, Russian media reported a massive drone attack in the city of Toropets in the Tver region of Russia – local authorities even decided to evacuate the population from the area where air defense was operating and a fire broke out.
Local authorities said the fire was caused by “falling UAV debris.”
Sources from several media outlets reported that this warehouse stored missiles for the Iskander and Tochka-U systems, as well as guided aerial bombs (KABs).
This structure was built in 2018. According to the then statement of the Russian Ministry of Defense, the arsenal met high international standards – and each storage facility of the arsenal holds up to 240 tons of ammunition.
