Oleksandr Usyk, a famous Ukrainian boxer, was detained yesterday, September 17, in the evening at the Krakow airport. The corresponding videos appeared on social networks.
The incident was responded to by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and diplomatic services.
Usyk himself later commented on this event on his Instagram account.
Friends, everything is fine. The misunderstanding was quickly resolved. Thank you to everyone who was worried. I thank the Ukrainian diplomats for their support, he wrote. And respect to the Polish law enforcement officers who perform their duties, despite their height, weight, arm span and regalia.
Usyk also published a video in which he assured that “everything is great.”
Everything is fine. I am free. There were some misunderstandings. I want to thank the Ukrainian delegation and the Ukrainian ambassador to Poland, personally our president, who was very worried about this and personally resolved this issue. Vladimir Aleksandrovich, thank you personally. Glory to God and Glory to Ukraine! – he emphasized. – I am free, there is no need to “crown” me.
Polish promoter Andrzej Wasilewski, having received information from Usyk’s manager Alexander Krasiuk, spoke about the details of this incident, reports the publication Przeglad Sportowy.
According to him, Usyk arrived in Krakow from Kyiv by car and planned to fly to Spain to participate in a training camp. However, the border service refused to let his friend on board the plane for unknown reasons. Usyk decided not to fly without his friend, and both were detained.
