Thousands of pagers went off after sending a coded message that simultaneously set off explosives.
The mass bombing of pagers by members of the Lebanese group Hezbollah was organized by the Israeli intelligence service Mossad. Reuters wrote this on Wednesday, September 18.
A senior Lebanese security source said Hezbollah had ordered 5,000 pagers from Taiwan’s Gold Apollo, which wirelessly receive and display text messages but cannot make phone calls.
Thus, the militants try to avoid Israeli surveillance. However, according to a Lebanese source, the devices were modified by the Israeli intelligence service “to the production level.”
“The Mossad has planted a board with explosive material in the device that can receive a code. It is very difficult to detect in any way, not even with any device or scanner,” said the source.
According to him, 3,000 pagers exploded after sending a coded message that simultaneously activated the explosives.
Another security source told Reuters that the new pagers contained up to three grams of explosives, which Hezbollah had not noticed for months.
We remind you that on September 17, pagers of participants in the Lebanese Hezbollah movement began to explode. A series of explosions in Beirut and southern Lebanon killed eight people and injured nearly 3,000. Hezbollah vowed “revenge” for the bombings on the pager.
