Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky on Wednesday, September 17, said that he personally spoke on the phone with Oleksandr Usyk when he was detained at the Krakow airport.
“I am outraged by this attitude towards our citizen and champion,” Zelensky said.
The President instructed the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrey Sibiga and the Minister of Internal Affairs Igor Klymenko to immediately understand all the details of the incident in Krakow.
“They just told me that everything is fine, our champion has been released and no one is holding him,” Zelensky added, assuring Ukrainians about the situation with Usyk.
The boxer’s wife, Ekaterina Usik, said on her social networks that “everything is fine, there is no criminal.” He also added that Alexander Usik will explain everything later.

Earlier, the first deputy chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Youth and Sports, Zhan Belenyuk, wrote online that Usyk was detained at the airport in Poland and posted a video of the detention.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported that the Consul General of Ukraine in Krakow immediately left for the airport.
