A massive explosion of pagers occurred in Lebanon.
The explosions were heard in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, as well as in the southern part of the country. They continued to sound even half an hour after the first detonations. Hundreds of Hezbollah militants, who usually use pagers, were injured, Reuters reported.
Hundreds of Hezbollah members were reported wounded and dozens were killed. Some media outlets reported 1,500 casualties across the country. Among the wounded was Iran’s ambassador to Beirut, Mojtaba Amani.
The French-language Lebanese newspaper L’Orient le Jour said Israeli intelligence may have been behind the attack, with the pagers likely being disrupted remotely until they overheated and then exploded.
It is noted that, unlike mobile phones, pagers are difficult to track because they do not require a SIM card or an Internet connection.
Recall that on August 25, Hezbollah said it had fired 320 rockets and several drones at Israel in response to the assassination of the group’s commander, Faud Shukr. Their targets were 11 military bases in northern Israel, some of them in the Golan Heights.
