The voted bills define the concepts of “man” and “woman”, ban gender reassignment surgeries, the broadcasting of sexually explicit scenes involving LGBT people, and much more.
The Parliament of Georgia adopted in the third final reading the so-called anti-LGBT-package of laws and amendments. This topic is partly an election program Georgian dreamrecalled the News-Georgia agency.
84 representatives voted in favor. The opposition boycotted the work of the parliament and did not take part in the voting.
The law will take effect after being signed and published. So far, Salomi Zurabishvili has not announced whether she will veto this package of bills.
The amendments proposed by the Georgian Dream include, in particular, the ban on the registration of any marriage except between a man and a woman, the adoption of minors by homosexual couples and operations on gender change.
The schools want to ban providing information that could be interpreted as “propaganda of belonging to the opposite sex, same-sex relationships or incest.”
Broadcasters, advertisers and cinemas need to edit content to comply with legal requirements.
International organizations have previously expressed concern that the package perpetuates stigma and promotes discrimination.
We previously reported that the Georgian parliament supported the first reading of a package of laws restricting the rights of LGBT people, despite the fact that the day before it was criticized by the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe.
