Elon Musk has deleted his post on X after backlash over his comment.
On September 16, the Independent reported that after the second failed assassination attempt on US presidential candidate Donald Trump, Musk responded to a user’s question on the social network X (formerly Twitter): “Why do they want to kill Donald Trump?” by saying: “And no one is even trying to kill Biden/Kamala.”
X users called his comment “irresponsible” and “dangerous.”
Some called for Musk to be stripped of government contracts and visited by the Secret Service after the comment.
Musk himself called his message a joke, but later deleted it.
Former Trump 2016 campaign adviser AJ Delago, who identifies as anti-Trump and supports Kamala Harris, responded to Musk’s post:
If you or I said that, tomorrow the FBI would knock on our door and take us in for questioning.
Former federal prosecutor Elizabeth de la Vega:
Seriously, as a former federal prosecutor, I can tell you that a statement like the one below from Elon Musk does indeed warrant an immediate visit from the US Secret Service. This is standard protocol in every situation like this.
Former Republican Representative Adam Kinzinger, who supported Kamala Harris, personally reached out to Musk:
Dude, I’m not kidding, get help. This is not normal and it’s not safe. Can someone who loves him intervene… I’m serious, he’s crazy.
