Son of the late Philippine dictator Ferdinand Marcos On Thursday, he assumed the presidency, ending decades of efforts to return his family to the pinnacle of power in the Southeast Asian country.

At a ceremony at the National Museum Manila along with hundreds of dignitaries, journalists and supporters, Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.64 years old, was sworn in and paid homage to his father’s 20-year term marked by corruption and rights violations.

“I once met a man who saw how little has been achieved since independence. And he did it,” he said after being sworn in under the gaze of his 92-year-old mother, Imelda.

“So it will be with your son. You won’t get excuses from me,” he added.

Ferdinand Marcos Jr. He won last month’s election by a wide margin, the biggest victory among competitors since his father was ousted in a popular uprising in 1986.

More than 15,000 police officers, soldiers and coast guards were sent to Manila for the inauguration ceremony of Marcos Jr., which was attended by Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan or US Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff, husband of Vice President Kamala Harris. (AFP)
